Opening Words
Welcome everyone.
We have come together here
in celebration
of the joining together
of Renee Full Name and Peter Full Name the 2nd.
There are many things to say about marriage.
Much wisdom
concerning the joining together of two souls,
has come our way
through all paths of belief,
and from many cultures.
With each union,
more knowledge is gained
and more wisdom gathered.
Though we are unable to give all this knowledge
to these two who stand before us,
we can hope to leave with them
the knowledge of love
and its strengths
and the anticipation
of the wisdom
that comes with time.
We are gathered here today,
not to witness the beginning
of what will be,
but rather
what already is!
We do not create this marriage,
because we cannot.
We can and do,
however,
celebrate with Peter and Renee
and their friends and family
the wondrous
and joyful occurrence
that has already taken place
in their lives.
Expression of Intent
[Renee Hands Bouquet to Maid of Honor]
{At this time, Renee and Peter
will make public
their intention to marry...}
Please face each other and join hands.
Renee,
do you take this man
to be your wedded husband,
to share your life with him,
and do you pledge
that you will love,
honor,
and care for him
in tenderness and affection
through all the varying experiences
of your lives?
Renee: I do.
Peter,
do you take this woman
to be your wedded wife,
to share your life with her,
and do you pledge
that you will love,
honor,
and care for her
in tenderness and affection
through all the varying experiences
of your lives?
Peter: I do.
Vows
{And now, Renee & Peter will say their wedding vows.
And I'd just like everyone to know that
although they will be repeating after me,
Peter and Renee wrote their own vows}
Peter, please repeat after me...
You are my best friend in life.
I promise to always be there when you need me
to fill your day with sunshine, to comfort and encourage you, to help you fulfill all your dreams.
I promise to love you with all my heart
everyday for the rest of my life.
Renee, please repeat after me...
Pete, you are my best friend and I truly cherish you.
I will support you through times of trouble,
and rejoice with you in times of happiness.
Know that your pain will be mine, and your joy mine as well.
I promise to love you and respect you;
to stand by you and be faithful to you;
to be open and honest with you;
and to nurture and strengthen the love between us
as long as we both shall live.
I love you.
Exchange Of The Rings
{At this time, Renee and Peter will exchange
their wedding rings...}
Riley, please step forward with the rings.
[Peter takes Renee's Ring off Ring Pillow]
Peter, please repeat after me:
With this ring, I thee wed,
as a symbol of love that has neither beginning or end.
As this ring encircles your finger from this day forward,
year in and year out, so will my love forever encircle you.
[Renee takes Peter's Ring off Ring Pillow]
Renee, please repeat after me:
With this ring, I thee wed,
as a symbol of love that has neither beginning or end.
As this ring encircles your finger from this day forward,
year in and year out, so will my love forever encircle you.
Riley, please return to your place with the groomsmen.
Pronouncement of Marriage
{At this time we come to the Pronouncement of Marriage.
The Pronouncement is my public, and legal, proclamation
that Renee and Peter are married.
It is the exact moment
of Marriage...}
Peter and Renee,
By the power vested in me by the State of New Hampshire,
I now pronounce you husband and wife.
Permission to Kiss
Congratulations, you may kiss the bride!
The Rose Ceremony
[Celebrant Hands Renee & Peter Single Roses]
{Before I formally introduce Renee and Peter as a new couple, they will exchange their first gift as Husband and Wife}
Your gift to each other
for your wedding today
has been your wedding rings
- which shall always be an outward demonstration
of your vows of love and respect,
and a public showing
of your commitment to each other.
You now have
what remains the most honorable title which may exist
between a man and a woman
- the title of "husband and wife."
For your first gift as husband and wife...
you will give each other a single rose.
In the past,
the rose was considered
a symbol of love, and a single rose
always meant only one thing
- it meant the words "I love you."
So it is appropriate
that your first gift as husband and wife
would be a single rose.
Please exchange your first gift
as husband and wife.
[Renee and Peter exchange roses]
In some ways,
it seems like you have not done anything at all.
Just a moment ago,
you were holding one small rose
- and now,
you are holding one small rose.
And, in some ways
a marriage ceremony is like this.
And, in some ways
tomorrow is going to seem no different
than today.
But in fact today,
just now,
you have both given and received
one of the most valuable and precious gifts of life
- one I hope you'll always remember
- the gift of true and abiding love
within the devotion of marriage.
Peter and Renee,
I would ask that
wherever you make your home in the future
- whether it be a large and elegant home,
or a small and graceful one
- that together,
you pick one very special location
for roses;
so that on each anniversary
of this truly wonderful occasion,
you both may take a rose to that spot
as a recommitment to your marriage
- and a recommitment
that this will be a marriage
based upon love.
In every marriage
there are times
when it is difficult to find
the right words.
It is easiest to hurt those
who we most love.
It is easiest to be most hurt by those
who we most love.
It might be difficult sometimes
to say the words
'I am sorry' or
'I forgive you', 'I need you', or
'I am hurting'.
If this should happen,
if you simply cannot find these words,
leave a rose at that spot
which both of you have selected
- for that rose then says
what matters most of all,
and will overpower all other things
and all other words.
That rose says the words:
'I still love you.'
The other should accept this rose
for the words which cannot be found,
and remember the love and hope
that you both share today.
Peter and Renee,
if there is anything that you remember
of this marriage ceremony,
let it be that it was love
that brought you here today,
it is only love
that can make it a glorious union,
and it is by love
which your marriage
shall endure.
Irish Blessing
[Renee Takes Bouquet back from M of Honor]
[Celebrant Asks Renee & Peter to Turn a bit and Face Him]
Peter and Renee,
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your home,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And the light of friendship guide your paths together,
And until we meet again,
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness from this day forward.
May green be the grass you walk on.
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.
And when eternity beckons, at the end of a life
heaped high with love,
May you know the hand of a friend was always near.
And, today, may the Spirit of Love
find a dwelling place in your hearts.
Benediction
Go into the world
and fulfill your lives.
Hold fast your ideals.
Give to one another
new experiences of joy.
Challenge one another
that you may grow.
May the love you hold for each other,
now sealed in marriage,
continue to mature,
that your life together
may be a source of strength and inspiration
to the community of your family
and to the wider circle
of the world.
